Modern Headshot Posing Secrets
These are my BEST posing secrets for creating flattering headshots. Your clients will love their images and be super impressed with how you manage them. Read below for my secrets!
Shoot From Slightly Above
When you shoot from slightly above it creates a more flattering photo. This works great to have your client sit on stairs or if you're short like me you can get a cheap step stool to bring with you!
2. Lean With It Rock With It
This one is fun and gets them moving to loosen them up a bit! I have my clients stand to the side hand on the hip for ladies and hands in pockets for men. Then I have them rock back and forth towards me just moving their torso. I then proceed to do an annoying fake laugh and eventually, we are both actually laughing. This will create a genuine smile at a flattering angle for your clients.
3. Walk It Out
I love to have my clients walk! This seems so simple but it really helps them get comfortable. For the ladies, I ask them to walk crossing their legs. This makes their legs look longer and leaner. I have them alternate their heads looking at me and to the side.
4. Play On The Clothing Choice
Use the clothing to your advantage! If they have a blazer on you can have them pull on the lapel or put hands in pockets. If they wear a dress you can have them pinch the dress and move their wrist in and out to make the dress move.
5. Make Triangles
For a really flattering look always try to create triangles within your client's body. Add an arm by their face, put hand on hip or in pockets and create space between their arms and body. Here are some examples below.
Bonus: How to WOW your Headshot Clients
Client experience is always number one for me! I'm always trying to take it up a notch on how I can serve them better. At every session I always under promise and over-deliver images.
I always make sure to take a few with negative space so they can add in text for sales posts. I also try and get a pulled back shots and some with their phone screens or them in their workspace. They will be so appreciative to have extra images to use for branding on social media!
